THE RUNS
From our neighbors in San Francisco, California, we bring you The Runs, the good kind. They promise to sing songs about Uranus, and will offer you money if you like them. With a debut CD out in stores, they will soon be all over the place. The band has been lovingly described as “a fart in a jam jar,” (Dick Scum) and “Screeching Weasel and The Queer’s love child” by Jonny Manak, and with songs titled “Rancho Slutadero” and “Your Butt Begs For Butter,” how and why would you want to resist them. With Charmin’ Ultra on drums, Paul McFartney on bass and Skid Marx on guitar, you would think that old potty jokes die hard, but this band proves that no matter what age you are you’re never too old to laugh about diarrhea. Reminiscent of old Blink 182 humor, bathroom humor and all, The Runs claim “We’re very complex people, that’s why we write simple songs.” If you’re one of those people who have to see it to believe it, don’t hesitate to run to their next show at the Cherry Bar Lounge in San Francisco on September 22. And hurry to pick up their debut in local record shops throughout San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley etc. before they’re all wiped out.

THE DUST
Within the industrial boat yard of Half Moon Bay, California you can find the ideal place for The Dust to tear apart their practice space. Growing up in a small fishing town on a steady diet of metal and punk is what Matt Allen (bass), Josh Jasperson (guitar), David Langer (drums), and Brian Overfelt (vocals) is exactly the answer to this up and coming band’s success. First coming together in 1997, the band began playing many shows which lead to an opening slot for Incubus and Papa Roach. The Dust have released a 3 song demo and remain true to their heavy and dynamic sound. With lyrics based on personal experiences, they strive to entertain and inspire. Their quieter grooves will lull you into a state of tranquility and then rip you out with the tension featured in their heavier songs. They are honest about not just playing for fame, but the personal inspiration that goes both ways when connection through music occurs. They just want to give people something to enjoy and believe in, perhaps a reason for living. You can catch The Dust on RampageRadio.com or KUSF on Saturday nights midnight to 9 am. Or better yet, vote for them in the upcoming Battle Of The Bands at San Francisco’s Pound on September 10.
