Acid King, Twelve Years and Counting for the King

What keeps a band together for more than 12 years? Well, worshiping Satan, smoking weed and rock and roll has worked just fine for Acid King. Front women Lori S. took the time to answer a few questions for the Zero readers.

Over the last 12 years you’ve been through tons of line-up changes. What's the current Acid King roster?
Tons! Well, five actually and, hey, five in 12 years ain't bad! Current line up as of April 19th is......
Lori S. - Guitar Vocals
Joe Osbourne - Drums
Rafa Martinez - Bass

You got your name from a famous satanic stoner Ricky Kasso. Do any of you worship Satan?
Of course we worship Satan! Or as Ricky spelled it, Satin! I read the Satanic Bible! Seriously though, no real satanic worship here. I just read the book and it struck a chord with me and decided I must name this band after Ricky. I did get reprimanded by some old school mate of the guy that Ricky killed for using this name and therefore glorifying a murder. I say tell that to Marilyn Manson and the Dead Kennedys bro! Only a hand full of people even knew who the Acid King was!

It has been over five years since we’ve heard any new music from Acid King. Can fans look forward to any surprises on the new album?
Hell no! You can count on us to stay true to ourselves. I think you'll find that even though the music is still the same vibe, the songwriting has advanced. No one has to worry that we've turned into a "Nu metal" band!

How’s the new album Acid King III coming along?
The new CD is done! Will be out in stores June 15th. We're psyched. The CD was admittedly no easy task to organize and record but it's very triumphant to see the final product.

Do you have any plans to tour this summer? If so with who?
We will tour the West Coast this summer, no plans for a U.S tour this year as we're going to the UK in October but ya never know. Anything can happen between now and then.

You guys are a stoner metal band. So do you all smoke weed?
Well, we didn't put ourselves in that category, so no we all don't! Some of us do!

What venues do the Acid Kings like to frequent, and is there any bands you like to raise hell with?
Well, being from SF we go where ever the music is, which can be anywhere from Bottom of the Hill, 12 Galaxies, Elbo Room. I don't know if we frequent anywhere! Joey frequents the Argus, a bar on Mission Street! Go there and buy him a Ferret! So many bands we love to play with. We always try to play with Dixie Witch when they come through town and one day we hope to actually play with our pals Fu Manchu again!

You guys have been around for 12 years or so. What’s the one story that still sticks out in your mind?
Hmm, tough one! I still like to think about the time we drove from SF to the Northwest to play in Seattle and Portland. We got to Seattle and played the next day it was pouring out and Route 5, yes the Route 5 was closed so we had no way of leaving Seattle. We kept calling AAA and found out that we could take 101 South so we decided to go for it. It took us six hours to go to a place that should have taken us three hours to get to. It was a total obstacle course driving the backroads. We kept hitting road closures and taking different routes! We finally made it to Portland, pulled up to the club, unloaded our gear at 11pm and people clapped as we walked in. Quite triumphant! I plugged in and played the first song completely out of tune!

Anything else you want the Zero readers to know?
Give Acid King some Bay Area love! Come on out to see us play and pick up the new CD. Love & Distortion. Lori S. www.acidking.com
